The L.P. "Skip" and Anne Hughes Hill Visiting Artist Endowment
The L.P. "Skip" and Anne Hughes Hill Visiting Artist Endowment honors the legacy of L.P. "Skip" Hill and Anne Hughes Hill. Skip ’49 (Associate of Science) and Anne ’54 (Bachelor of Music) made significant contributions to the university community. The fund supports, in part, Shenandoah Conservatory’s Performing Arts Live series.
Performing Arts Live (PAL) at Shenandoah University is a dynamic multidisciplinary presenting series showcasing groundbreaking performances by acclaimed artists in music, theatre and dance. With five PAL performances annually, the series offers thrilling live events and meaningful educational engagement for diverse audiences. Beyond captivating stage performances, visiting artists and ensembles actively engage with the campus and community through free workshops, masterclasses, Q&A sessions, and artistic collaborations. PAL has experienced significant growth, reaching over 2,000 audience members and participants each year. Supported by individual donors and granting organizations, PAL underwrites complimentary tickets for university affiliates, local nonprofits, K-12 students, and military veterans, while also providing discounted tickets to various groups.
Recent highlights include residencies with renowned groups like the Women Drummers of Rwanda, Silkroad Ensemble, Ballet Hispanico, and National Theatre of Scotland, fostering enriching experiences for students and audiences alike. PAL audiences and participants repeatedly attest to the series' impact, emphasizing its value in both educational and artistic realms.
